Problem-based learning is at the core of the Health Sciences curriculum. The Health Sciences Department built its curriculum on a problem-based (PBL) model for several reasons. First, we are committed to ensuring our students are prepared to grapple with and to solve complex real-world problems that they will encounter in the field. Second, working on a team is foundational to work in the field. PBL prepares students for this work. Finally, like many other faculty, we found that traditional teaching methods were falling short. We believe that PBL provides the rigor and experience students need to be successful in whatever health field that they enter..
