The Problem Statement - Heart Disease

HSC 400 Problem Statement:

Progress in combating heart disease in the United States has stalled. The Governor of California is particularly concerned by a recent increase (1.6% increase between 2012-2014) in deaths related to heart disease. The Governor fears that any stalled progress in fighting heart disease could have a significant and detrimental effect on the health and well-being of the citizens of California, including potentially negative economic impacts.

As members of the newly-formed Governor’s Task Force on Heart Disease and Chronic Conditions, you must assess the governor’s concerns, provide an assessment of current and past state and national-level programs and policy interventions, and determine whether (and where/how) the Governor should allocate additional resources to combat heart disease in California. If you determine that the Governor should not allocate additional State resources toward combating heart disease, explain why.
